This four day course delivers the necessary skills and knowledge to manage and plan the types of lifts or moving loads operations that frequently occur on engineering construction industry sites. Delegates are introduced to the activities of the Appointed Person roles through classroom based lessons and exercises culminating in a one day practical phase of lift planning and performance which also forms the end assessment.
The ECITB Appointed Person Moving Loads course has been designed and developed after an industry survey highlighted the training need with regards to this role competency.
AIM
Stage one – The learner undergoes four days of training based on ECITB Technical Training Standard and generates a lift plan, risk assessment and toolbox talk. Experienced personnel in the Appointed Person role can use this training course as refresher training before going straight to Stage three.
Stage two – The Work Based Task Assignment guides the learner through the consolidation period after initial training. Typically the learner will have generated a number of complicated and complex lift plans under supervision over a six month period before undertaking the ECITB Technical Competence Validation Test.
Stage three – The ECITB Technical Competence Validation Test is used to con rm the person has the job knowledge, skills and ability to safely perform the Appointed Person role and generate lift plans, risk assessments and toolbox talks.
Stage four – Re-assessment of the individual against the ECITB Technical Competence Validation Test on a three yearly cycle to maintain on-going development performance. Target Audience
The ECITB Appointed Persons Moving Loads course has been designed for Steel Erectors and Riggers working within the Engineering Construction Industry who are looking to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to work in or towards a management or supervisory position and plan the types of lifts or moving loads operations in Engineering or moving loads operations that frequently occur on Engineering Construction Industry sites.

Day Three: Calculations, Performing the Rigging Task

Day Four: Theory and Practical Assessments

Delegate Pre-Requisites
This training course has been designed for experienced Steel Erectors and Riggers working within the engineering construction industry and therefor all persons attending the course must have either a level 3 Vocational Qualification in Steel Erecting or Moving Loads or recent verifiable experience in moving loads operations validated by company and delegate CV.
Duration
The course is delivered as a four day tutor led programme. The first three days are classroom based, lessons and exercises focussed, informing delegates on the legislation, roles and responsibilities and other relevant underpinning theory and techniques. Day four is reserved for delegates to plan and perform lifting/rigging operations during which they will be assess on their performance against the learning outcomes within the course technical training standard. In addition to this, delegates will be required to attempt a written question and calculations assessment paper based upon the material presented through the course.
